It was great to test first-hand the Ballistic 7.8m. It handled extremely well even though the weather was horrible on the day, but we had a good Solent chop on offer to test the hulls performance which didn’t disappoint.
I was very comfortable pushing the hull in the conditions of the day and had plenty of confidence, knowing that the boat would not point to the sky if I was a little too enthusiastic working the well matched Yamaha engine on the back with the throttle. If I was a little too keen with the throttle, the Ballistic 7.8 would land in a very predictable way which gave me great confidence in driving of this boat.
The deck plan of the Ballistic 7.8 can be configured to what best suits your needs, it has an excellent build quality feel to it and would make a great all-round leisure or commercial boat as required.
It cannot be by chance that the oldest boat in our fleet is also the one which is most used. We have subsequently bought two more of since the delivery of our first one ten years ago.
Our 7.8m Ballistic RIBs offer a very comfortable and dry ride, fantastic versatility and have stood up to being the workhorses of the Necker Island fleet with unparalleled success.
We highly recommend them.
One of the few RIBs where the rougher it gets the more in control she seems to be. A strong, rugged, comfortable ride, and capable of handling much bigger seas than is sensible to go out in!
I have been boating for a number of years with various cruisers over 40 ft, but my family and I wanted to try something more exciting. We decided that a RIB was the way to go. I went to several RIB suppliers and brokers. However, I found JBT’s no nonsense approach refreshing, with no high-handed pressure sell.
I decided on a Ballistic RIB as the write-ups sounded impressive, after sea trialling both the 6.5m and the 7.8m versions I wasn’t disappointed! I settled on the 7.8m with a 250hp Evinrude as the ride felt better to me and would be more comfortable for the whole family.
They even modified the bench seat to accommodate my daughter with special needs. And ran the Power Boat Level 2 course which was great fun and very useful. Navigating at 50 knots is a whole new experience! They offer a great after-sales service and seems to keep the boys in line, which is no mean feat!
I can’t say enough about this RIB, I have been in some moderate/rough seas already and the old adage ‘you will give up before the RIB does’ really applies with this RIB. She just loves the rougher weather. I am amazed at the performance and handling, particularly of the Evinrude engine. It’s a monster but so easy to handle around the marina and such great fun in open water! I feel very safe taking out the whole family and if we get caught out in difficult seas, bar me being stupid, I feel confident she will get us home safely.
My first impression of JBT Marine as a prospective customer was the quality of their product. A broad portfolio of new and used RIBs were available to view and their premier stock, the Ballistic Range, definitely fulfils the needs of a demanding and discerning client. The sleek lines, high specification equipment and exhilarating performance comes at a price, but no-one should expect to acquire such an asset for a minimal outlay. The Ballistic RIBs are definitely value for money.
The JBT experience does not start and stop at the product range. The attention paid to customers by all staff is excellent. Right from the first introduction you are made to feel that you are important to them and attention is paid to every detail that is important to you. They are prepared to be available to suit the customer’s time schedule, including weekends and holidays. There is no discussion of the boats available until they properly understand your real needs, expressed or not! As options are reviewed, you are gently guided to the preference that most matches your needs and may even be steered away from a less suitable, although probably more expensive, alternative.
Taking Sea Trials under the guidance and support of JBT staff is a delight; attention is paid to the comfort of all participants and the whole experience is accompanied by an informative dialogue. At no time is there any pressure selling; the product quality and professional service of JBT Marine removes the need for such business practices. The post-purchase experience continues with the same theme… at each stage the customer is talked through all the intricacies of his or her new boat and is taken through a tutored sea trip to ensure competence and safety at the helm. Delivery handover is equally efficient, with road-ready preparedness, organised documentation and the hassle of warranty registration already sorted.
Overall, to deal with JBT Marine means to buy from a company that has a first-rate product where nothing is too much trouble if it is important to the customer and attention is paid to every detail. There is no doubt that I shall be coming back!
We bought a Ballistic 5.5m RIB from JBT. We have had fantastic fun on the Solent visiting beaches and marinas. Early this year the RIB developed a fault with the petrol tank. JBT investigated and identified the cause of the fault. Because of the inconvenience, they replaced our boat with new model at no expense to us. For us, JBT kept to the word of their ‘Customer Charter’ – their after-sales support is excellent. We have had a great summer using a great RIB.
My husband Atty was born in a boat – he loved them and up until five/six years ago owned a hard hulled vessel. Atty began his hunt for the ‘perfect RIB’ two years before we found JBT Marine.
The team at JBT talked us through our requirements in great detail, listened, and then walked us round the vast boatyard presenting only those that fitted the brief. We were both incredibly impressed by their knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm. What great guys. We ended up buying a Ballistic 5.5m RIB and never looked back.
I became captain of ‘Baby Ballistic’ two years ago. I was a complete novice, but very keen to give it a go as my children loved the boat as much as their Daddy did. I needed BIG help and support in all aspect of maintenance and transport. Amazingly it worked out. We did it and have had two glorious summers afloat. When I say ‘we did it’, it is very much a team effort including all the boys and Louise at JBT Marine. Many, many thanks.
I would like to thank you all for the fantastic service you have provided, from test driving a Ballistic RIB, through the purchase and collection, to the after-care, which was exemplary. Our Ballistic 6.5m, 200hp Evinrude, which we have imaginatively named ‘Go Ballistic’ is amazing. It has given our family and friends hours of fun this summer. I would not hesitate to recommend either the boat or JBT to anyone.
A BIG THANK YOU!
A huge thank you for all your hard work and superb organisation over the last two weeks preparing our Ballistic 6.5m RIB. We are thrilled with the end result. We have just had two brilliant days afloat. In 25 years of boating, those 2 days have been quite simply the best. Absolutely exhilarating. Please pass on our thanks to the whole team at JBT. Thank you very much for the jackets, we all looked very smart in Brighton Marina.
Thank you all for a job well done.
We are delighted with our 6.5m Ballistic RIB, which is proving perfect for all the things we do on the water, from going to the beach to water-skiing to trips to the Isle of Wight and beyond. Jonny and Louise [or JBT Marine] gave us very professional advice, which was important to us as first time buyers and their after-sales service has been absolutely first class.
I used the Ballistic 5.5 Rib for our Junior sailing event. The rib handled towing the kids out to the start with ease. I particularly liked having a towing point at the bow to bring boats alongside, and the two strong metal cleats aft for towing from the stern. We often ended up with multiple boats. I think the record was 12 boats on tow.
One of the great features was the ability to move around the back of the boat to reach the various cleats. Also the boat is wide enough to come forward either side of the helm station. In addition, as the throttle is in the centre of the helm pod there was little chance of knocking it accidently.
I wanted to say that I very much appreciate your help and advice at all stages of the purchasing our Ballistic 6.5m RIB. From 1st visit to JBT to your instructions on the Hamble. Timing was perfect for our Summer holiday in Yarmouth; the boat has been admired by all. I can confidently say we have put some hours on the engine. Really cannot fault the boat in any way; I am sure we haven’t properly tested it in adverse weather but have become increasingly confident in the “Solent chop”. Sarah is planning to do a RYA power boat course in the near future.
PS Happened to visit Seaview and noticed a lot of Ballistics on the swinging moorings; it looks like you are establishing quite a reputation there!
